Tutorial DVD-ROMNew! Expressive Painting from PhotosVolume 1: Beach Love ~ Digital PaintingCorel Painter 11 Tutorial DVD-ROM, 1 hr 18 min, $99 User Review“The Expressive Painting from Photos DVD is one of your best yet! I loved following the journey with Sascha and Andrea from the beginning photo session on the beach to the final creation of the painting Beach Love! The expression of love that you were able to capture with this couple is a testament to your wonderful talent as a painter. The DVD provided me with an in depth look at how you develop your paintings by using the creative features that Painter 11 has to offer. The specific lessons on Auto Painter, Brush Controls, and Brush Creator were especially helpful to me. Your explanation regarding how and why you choose your color and brushes is fascinating and opened my eyes up to a new way of painting! This DVD will be used over and over as I continue to develop my technique in Painter. I look forward to the next in the series on post-print painting techniques.” ~Michelle E., Germantown, Tennessee
This brand new DVD-ROM is the first volume in a new series of concise, focused tutorials on Expressive Painting from Photos. Each volume concentrates on a single case study, theme or in-depth technique and is longer and more extensive than any video tutorial on PaintboxJ.com. This DVD-ROM teaches you the digital painting process behind the creation of the painting Beach Love. You'll see the portrait subjects, Andrea and Sascha, dancing Argentine Tango on the beach, how I use Auto-Painting to generate an underpainting, how I make a custom variant in the Brush Creator, and then the brush stroke by brush stroke development of the artwork in Corel Painter 11, using a Wacom Intuos4 tablet. Watch the way that I transform a rough, loose “muck up” underpainting into a completed, resolved composition that captures the colorful personality, as well as the likeness, of my portrait subjects. Coming soon: Volume 2 which will teach the post-print painting techniques used to apply physical paint onto the canvas print. Contents (durations in minutes:seconds) 1) The Shoot 4:24
2) Auto-Painting 9:14

4) Brush Creator 12:35
5) Digital Painting Part 1 12:18

This tutorial DVD-ROM versus the earlier “How to Paint From Photographs Using Corel Painter X” DVD-ROM?In the new “Expressive Paintings from Photos” DVD-ROM, I use the most current version, Painter 11. It includes an in-depth explanation and demonstration of Auto-Painting and how it is used to create a rough underpainting. It also includes instruction on how to use the Brush Creator to generate and save your own exciting custom variants. These are both areas not covered in the earlier title. Previously included in the older title, “How to Paint From Photographs Using Corel Painter X” DVD-ROM, but not included in this new title, are the following: tutorial images; extra brushes and art materials; and the photo selection process (using Aperture). DVD-ROM versus DVD-VideoA DVD-ROM is a data disc that only plays on a computer (Mac or Windows PC), not on a TV or regular DVD player. DVD-ROM offers the benefit of the QuickTime slider that allows you to easily and quickly navigate around each movie, going from one point to another in seconds. This is generally more convenient than fast forwarding or reversing in a regular DVD player. DVD-ROM can play at higher resolution (in this case approximately 1000 x 600 pixels) than a DVD-Video (720 x 480 pixels), and gives better reproduction of details near the edge of the screen. Online Training The interface has not changed significantly between Painter X and Painter 11 so you can easily apply the lessons from all my earlier materials when using Corel Painter 11. Likewise my PaintboxJ Painter 11 tutorials can all be easily applied in earlier versions of Painter. I do strongly recommend upgrading to Painter 11 if you currently have an earlier version. The newest Painter is the best yet. It is significantly faster than earlier versions and includes a whole new class of wonderful brushes (the Hard Media brushes).
